Day One

Off to Seattle

Early morning June 16, 2005, Marilyn, Carolyn, Alex, Butch, and George rise early to leave for the Pacific Northwest and their long anticipated voyage to Alaska. Delta (and the Transportation Security Administration) was ready when we were and we made it safely and uncomfortably to Seattle, where we were soon settled in at the world famous Hampton Inn.

It is conveniently located, and we enjoyed excellent accommodations there.

We're off this afternoon to see a bit of Seattle and begin with a visit to the Pike Place Market to see the sights and to have dinner. The Market has been described aptly as "an honest place in a phony time." We found it to be so. Here are some pictures from the market.

At the left we see that Alex's fame has preceded him and he is already well-known in the Pacific Northwest.

At the right, we see Carolyn, Butch, Alex, and Marilyn in front of the original Starbucks coffee place. I have no idea where I was when this picture was taken.

Following our explorations of the intricacies of the Pike Market, we repaired to Chez Shea for dinner. It was a fine restaurant indeed and each of us enjoyed a bon repast.

Folowing dinner, it was back to the Hampton Inn, where the sensible members of our group rested after a long day, while others played cards into the evening.
