George Broom

Music Director

George Broom earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University in Alabama, a Master of Church Music degree in Composition from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia.

George spent his 31-year musical career teaching and directing school bands and choirs in Cobb and Murray Counties, the City of Marietta, and the Cherokee County School System prior to his retirement in 1991. He subsequently taught four more years in private schools.

In retirement, George continues sharing his knowledge and joy of music with the community. He has directed the East Cobb New Horizons Band since August 2007, and has been a guest conductor for the Cherokee Community Chorale on three occasions. George is also a trombonist for the Southern Winds Concert Band in Roswell, Georgia and for the First Baptist Church of Marietta Orchestra.

George Broom’s musical career also includes:

Played with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
Served as Minister of Music to a number of churches over a fifty year period including the Crestview Baptist Church in Marietta and the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church in Canton, Georgia.
Served as a judge in Music Festivals sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association.
Served as a clinician in several District Honor Bands in Georgia.
Selected on two occasions STAR teacher by his high-achieving students who attained the STAR student status in their schools.
Election to honor societies include: Kappa Phi Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi, both education societies; Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, music fraternity and Phi Beta Mu, honorary Band Director’s society.

George and his wife Beverly have three children and eight grandchildren, and reside in Woodstock, Georgia.
