I am originally from Arlington, Virginia. My lovely wife Kathy and I have lived in Marietta, Georgia since 1978. We’ve been married for 36 years. Kathy is originally from Brooklyn, New York. We have a son, a daughter, and a granddaughter.

I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1968 with a BA in History. I was a Lieutenant in the US Navy and participated in the Vietnam war from 1969 to 1970. After spending 20 years in the financial services business and 16 years in the trucking and transportation logistics business, I retired in 2008.

I began playing the piano at age seven and took lessons for six years. I stopped playing after high school and returned to playing music 30 years later. One day in 2003, while trying out keyboards at a local music store, I noticed an offer to rent a saxophone for $5.00 a month for a period of three months. After the first three months were up, I talked the store clerk into giving me another three months at $5.00 a month. Eventually, I ended up buying a tenor sax from them. With a how-to-play book and eight music lessons, I was on my way. About a year later, I bought an alto sax.

I first learned about the New Horizons Band organization from an article in the local newspaper and was impressed with the concept. Later, I attended a performance by the Roswell New Horizons Band in Roswell, GA. In 2008, the East Cobb New Horizons Band performed at my church. During a break in the performance, the director, Mr. George Broom told the audience to contact him if anyone was interested in playing in the band. So, I did and was fortunate to be able to join the band and play the alto saxophone. It truly has been an enjoyable and a fantastic learning experience. I also play the tenor sax in the Southern Winds Concert Band, which is directed by Mr. Jim Moody.
