As the World knows, each year a group of members of the New Hanover High School Class of 1953 has gathered at the Isle of Palms to have fun. This year was no exception. (You can take a look at some stuff from the three previous sessions: October, 2005, October, 2006, and October, 2007.)

It is always exciting to visit with old(!) high school classmates, but this year's do was made even more exciting than usual by Marilyn's encounter with hostile flies. Those who have followed our activities may recall that in 2005, Marilyn killed an innocent, but obnoxious, fly. (You can see a brief description of this event here. ) Well, the surviving flies clearly remembered this incident, passed the story down through many generations (I was going to compute the number of generations until Jack told me of the life span of a fly.), and came for revenge. While Marilyn was leaning far over in her chair in a succesful attempt to kill one of the descendants of the 2005 fly, many other flies managed to pull the leg of her chair out from her, causing her to fall to the floor and sever her finger. Fortunately, Nurse Diane was able to reattach the finger. Observe Diane's fine stitching:

A few hardy souls went swimming — Caroline and Waite in the pool and Diane, Sue, and George in the Atlantic Ocean.

At the left is the ocean the day George went in and at the right is the ocean the day Diane and Sue went in.
