Frank McLeod

Frank was born in Atlanta, Georgia ... one of the few natives of the area. He began playing trombone in the sixth grade at Lakewood Heights Elementary School. He played in high school at Fulton High School in South Atlanta and for two years in the Ga.Tech marching band and the Air Force ROTC band.

He put his trombone in the closet for most of 30 years. He completed a BBA in Marketing and Accounting at Georgia State, while serving as Glidden Paint Company's regional Inventory Control Manager and going to school at night. After graduation from Georgia State, Frank was called into ministry. He earned the MDiv in Pastoral Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1977. In 1980, he earned the DMin in Biblical Studies from the Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, FL.

Frank maintained an interest in computers and programming through the 1980's, doing volunter programming work for the Home Mission Board in downtown Atlanta. In 1992 he was hired by that organization as a programmer/developer. He later became the manager of the software development department, responsible for the support of the financial systems, the human resource systems and development of business applications for the internal departments.

During that time, he joined the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs and pulled his trombone out of the closet to play in the church orchestra. The playing was sporadic as he traveled and served as interim pastor in several churches.

He recently decided to get back into playing in earnest by joining the East Cobb New Horizons Band in October, 2010. Since then, he has begun to be an alternate in the Memorylane Jazz Ensemble and also signed up with the Southern Winds.

Frank is married to JoAnn (King) McLeod, also of South Atlanta. She attended Roosevelt High School. They have one daughter, Keli, three granddaughters and three great-gransons. They live in Powder Springs and enjoy camping during the year at Unicoi Springs RV Resort.
